Senpai Marina started her Karate training in Japan at the Yokosuka dojo at only two and a half years of age. Sensei Duane had started a parent / child class to cater for the numerous inquires for classes for 3 year olds. Marina has competed in many tournaments from the age of 6 winning many National kata and kumite titles. Senpai Marina has won many New Zealand national and NZ Open gold medals as well as 2006 Oceania Championships (12yrs old) Gold in individual Kata and bronze in Kumite, Silver in Team kumite. 2008 Oceania Championships (14yrs old) Gold in individual Kumite and bronze in Kata, Gold in Team kata and Silver in Team kumite. 2009 WKF Junior World Championships (16yrs old) 5th= in the -59kg Junior Kumite division at the 6th WKF Junior World Championships held in Morocco. 2010 Oceania Championships (16yrs old) Gold in individual Kumite and Bronze in individual Kata, Gold in Team kata and Team kumite. 2011 Commonwealth Championships (17yrs old) Gold in individual Kumite U21 u60kg and Bronze in Senior Womens u61kg individual Kumite, Silver in Team kata and Silver in U21 Female Kata. 2011 WKF Junior World Championships (18yrs old) October - representing NZ in the U21 yrs Female Kumite u60kg 4th round loss to Bronze medalist 2012 WKF Oceania Championships (19yrs old) U21 yrs Female Kumite u60kg Gold U21 yrs Female Kata Bronze Senior Female Kumite u55kg Gold Qualified for 2013 World Combat Games in Columbia and World Games in Russia She has trained extensively in Japan attending many seminars conducted by some of the worlds top Karate sensei.
