Senpai Brendon was the first student to train under Shihan Duane after his return from Japan in 1998. Senpai Brendon Trained at the Browns Bay Central Dojo which had been running for over 15 years before moving with Sensei Monk to the Albany Dojo. Senpai Brendon was a member of the FRKNZ team that traveled to Japan in July 2003, training with many top Japanese Sensei from Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Osaka and of course with Fushin Ryu Karate Head Instructor Hanshi Sugihara Kenpu in Yokohama. Senpai Brendon gained his Shodan (1st degree Black belt) in December 2003 and after having assisted Junior classes with Sensei Monk at the Honbu Dojo for 18 months he now teaches classes at the Archers Road Dojo. Senpai Brendon regulary attends seminars to improve his skills including recent seminars with Nishimura Sensei,Wayne Otto o.b.e and Ogami Sensei.

Brendon made the National team in 2004 competing at the 11th Oceania karate championships held in Fiji, placing 3rd in Cadet Kumite and second in senior team kata.

The year 2005 was a big year for Brendon as we won a Silver at the Commonwealth Karate Championships in Wellington and also represented NZ at the Junior World Karate Championships which were held in Cyprus.

In 2006 Brendon competed for NZ at the World University karate championships and in September in New Caledonia at the 12th Oceania championships having an excellent tournament, taking 1st in Junior kumite, 2nd in team kata, Junior team kumite, Senior team kumite and an impressive 3rd place in the Open senior mens kumite.

Currently at university he manages his time well to include study, training and teaching at the Archers rd dojo on Tuesday and Thursdays.
